Our school is located in Cantù, a small town in Brianza district, a hilly area near the mountains in Lombardia, in the north of Italy. Cantù is an important centre of furniture industry, well-known in Italy and abroad for its quality. The most important economic activities are related with industry, crafts and services. Cantù is located halfway between Milano and Como, in an area of touristic interest due to monuments and landscape, such as the Basilica of San Vincenzo of Galliano, a rare example of Romanesque architecture in Europe.

 

Our institute is named Comprensivo Cantù 3 and is composed of 2 Pre-Primary schools, 4 Primary schools and 1 Secondary school, so the age of our pupils ranges from 3 to 13 years old. There are 958 students and 110 teachers in total. Schools are located in different villages of the town, we have Vighizzolo (1 Pre-Primary, 2 Primary and 1 Secondary school), Mirabello (1 Pre-Primary and 1 Primary school) and Cascina Amata (1 Primary school). The Secondary centre has a musical section and the pupils can choose between different instruments. Our school orchestra has won several music competitions between schools in Italy. Our students with special needs are well integrated into the school environment and are followed by specialized teachers, so they can participate in all school activities.

 

Our school is an important gathering place because the Institute is located in a suburban area where there is a big incidence of immigrants from Eastern Europe, Asia and Africa and there are many families in low socio-economic conditions. That is why we need to provide opportunities to develop the integration between different cultures and provide the opportunity to learn from the others, also participating in international projects. We are sure that participation as a partner school into a Comenius Project provides a good opportunity of educational and cultural enrichment for all students.
